Dear artists and community,

The past few weeks have been extraordinary. Artworks of all kinds have arrived from around the world — from across the US, from international Prince communities, and from all parts of Minneapolis itself. I rearranged my studio to accommodate the arrivals, and the next stage of serious curatorial work began: arranging, planning across three spaces, consulting with artists and venues, handling the contributions with care, editing the Prince stories our community has shared, so every voice can be heard by our visitors.

Last week we announced our partnership with the Capri Theater — and this week the exhibition is up. Let's Work! A Labor of Love is now on the walls and ready for you.

How to visit: The People's Museum for Prince is open June 7–27 across three venues — Roberts Gallery and The Capri Theater in North Minneapolis, and ColorWheel Gallery in South Minneapolis. Visit The Capri exhibition by appointment during business hours before June 7 or during any Capri events such as the Capri Arts Festival June 6. Special curator hours coming in June. To request a time to visit, please contact info@thecapri.org

Opening Day — Roberts Gallery- June 7

Join us to celebrate Prince on his birthday — Sunday June 7, 2–6pm at Roberts Gallery. Cake and artists reception from 3pm.

We are honored that Brass Solidarity are joining us to help celebrate Prince on his birthday. Formed in 2021 in the aftermath of George Floyd's murder, this Minneapolis musical collective brings sonic joy and an unwavering commitment to social justice — showing up for this community as a vital part of the resistance. Read more about their extraordinary work here.

Big news: Free June 10 Film & Art Evening- Capri

We are thrilled to announce Forever in My Life: A Gathering for the Purple Community — a special evening at the Capri Theater on Wednesday June 10, co-presented with the Capri, as part of their That Prince Spark: Only in Minneapolis program, celebrating Prince in the historic venue where he performed his first solo concert in January 1979.

The evening brings together original short films from Prince's worldwide community, live music and poetry— and it is completely free. We'll have more program information in coming weeks but if you're ready to commit to an evening of Prince through community, you can reserve your ticket now! Doors and bar open from 5pm. Gallery and artists reception at 5:30pm. Film program 6pm. Live music 8pm.

Seating is limited — reserve your ticket now

Volunteers needed

If you're in Minneapolis and have time to help with load-in, install, in the first week of June or opening day on June 7, we would love to hear from you. It's a big, beautiful project to create a community event and we welcome your participation. Please reach out at exhibition@peoplesmuseumforprince.org

We look forward to welcoming you to the People's Museum for Prince.
