2026 Minneapolis

There's a door that you can walk through, where there used to be a wall. — Prince, Breakdown, 2014

In June 2026 The People's Museum for Prince returned to Minneapolis, commemorating ten years since the passing of Prince Rogers Nelson.

The museum opened on June 7, Prince's birthday, in North Minneapolis, the neighbourhood where he grew up.

Over three weeks, the museum presented three exhibitions featuring 70+ participants from 7 countries contributing art, stories and memories.

The 2026 season - a full program of events

We opened Sunday June 7 with a birthday celebration full of music, singing, dancing and cake, with Brass Solidarity bringing us into full-hearted celebration of Prince and community.

On June 10 we gathered at the Capri for Forever in My Life, a full evening of film, art, poetry and live music.

Community Day on June 21 started with a tour of Prince's North Minneapolis led by Kristen Zschomler.  We welcomed North Minneapolis residents and visitors for an afternoon at the museum, which became an impromptu reunion of some of Prince's school friends and neighbors, sharing memories and artifacts.  Tammy Ortegon from ColorWheel hosted a special Prince coloring party as we gathered around a purple table to share memories and art.

Our closing celebrations on June 27 included special guest author Ayo Yetunde in conversation with curator Emma Balazs on Prince and Spirituality, then a closing  party hosted by DJ Manny with Prince's former bandmate and neighbor Terry Jackson on percussion!

All events free. Open to all ages, all backgrounds, to people everywhere.
