Welcome to the Dawn, Susan Bailey, 2024

This piece was created in January of 2024. The background glass was made from one continuous piece of swirling glass. If even one piece were to break, it would ruin the flow. Luckily Prince was watching over me while I worked and made sure nothing broke. This piece is called Welcome to the Dawn.

All The Silence from my Prince Vinyl (excerpt). Christopher Hall, 2026

I've been a Prince fan since I saw the 1999 video on TV in about 1983. A lot of my spare time in the 80's was spent listening to his music or trying to get money so that I could buy more music. This is a short film about silence and loss.

I am life long Prince fan. I was living in Chanhassen at the time that Prince passed. Not only was his death impactful, but it was such an amazing thing to see how many people came to Chanhassen to give tribute.  The energy of those that came from far and near was of sadness and tribute to such an amazing artist. This is a photo from my house in Carver, MN. The purple rain was falling near Paisley Park, in Chanhassen, MN.

I have loved Prince's songs for a long time. I never had the chance to attend one of his concerts, which is my regret. I wanted to pay tribute to him by painting canvases in his honor, and I enjoyed it immensely.  I dare not paint his face for fear of not being up to the beauty of it, so I only painted his symbolic attributes, out of respect for him. I wanted to symbolize his presence.

This photo was taken outside First Avenue after Prince died. When Prince died, it hit Minneapolis hard.  First Avenue was a place to celebrate his life and mourn. I saw this barefoot girl drawing a rainbow for Prince. It was such an innocent scene in front of the gritty nightclub. The name of the photo is "In Memoriam" and it was taken on April 23, 2016. When Prince died I took up my pen and paper and recorded my feelings and events like visiting the First Avenue Shrine. My story is a 30 page lavender purple ZINE. This Prince story details how I first got the news of his death, how I drew my reaction, how my friends and I danced to his music and how I visited the Prince shine with a purple hat. I also visually mused on how purple the spring was blooming after his death.

Thanks to everyone who has shared their art and personal stories with the People's Museum for Prince over these past months. We look forward to sharing collectively this precious and ever-growing archive in Minneapolis this June. We open in honor of Prince on his birthday June 7, 2026.
